- Will assist in collaborating with classroom teachers to highlight and reinforce links between and among curricula areas.
- Participate in school-wide technology planning and promote its integration into all instructional programs.
NATURE OF POSITION
- The Library-Media Specialist is responsible for the operation of the Library-media center, assists with curriculum development, provides the best possible materials available to all students and faculty, assists with the development of a district-wide library-media program to strengthen the library-media skills of students, and directly supervises the library-media aides.
- The Library-Media Specialist is both a teacher and a library-media specialist with faculty status equal to other teachers in the school system. The head library-media specialist at the high school will hold the added position of department chairperson.
- The Library-Media Specialist is directly responsible to the building principal.
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Maintains discipline and the proper atmosphere within the library-media center.
- Gives reference service to all students and faculty.
- Prepares requested bibliographies.
- Gives instruction to both classes and individual students in the use of the library-media center.
- Controls all acquisitions for the library-media center.
- Supervises and helps with circulation procedures.
- Supervises and helps with cataloging procedures.
- Supervises and helps with the ordering and distribution of audio-visual software.
- Supervises and helps with the distribution and repair of audio-visual equipment.
- Understands and operates existing library technology.
- Actively participates in building and district technology development.
- Works with curriculum development through staff recommendations and acquisition of materials.
- Is responsible for bringing all library-media materials under the control of the library-media center, and making it readily available.
- Supervises the library-media center aides and student aides.
- Conducts in-service for personnel regarding development and use of media materials and equipment
- Encourages library-media development in the district by working closely with other audio-visual and library-media personnel.
- Takes a complete inventory during the school year.
- Updates the Collection Development Policy every three years.
- Keeps the faculty and students informed of new materials and procedures within the library-media center.
- Exercises leadership in the development of policies regarding selection and use of library materials.
- The head high school library-media specialist maintains the duties of department chairperson.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Holds a Montana teaching certificate with library-media endorsement.
- Works well with students, administrators, and fellow faculty members.
- Has experience in curriculum planning and supervision.
- Teaching experience is recommended.
